King’s Media Hub

A creative media space with drop-in computer access. 

Weekly on a Monday afternoon after college hours – 3.15pm-6.30pm at The King’s Centre in Uckfield. 

Who is this for?  

  • Older teens & young adults (age 16+) – primarily A Level & uni students.
  • For anyone studying digital/creative subjects such as Digital Media, Media Studies, Film Studies or Music Technology at Uckfield College or other relevant subjects elsewhere and living locally, i.e. animation, illustration, graphics etc.

What are we offering? 

  • Apple Mac computers with industry standard creative software such as Adobe Creative Suite and other applications for college/uni work or personal projects.
  • Hands on assistance in learning how to use the software where needed.
  • Internet access (with full protection for under 18’s) and printer access if required.
  • A safe space and co-working space (or ‘body doubling’) for students.
  • A sounding board for project ideas students may have and support in how to realise their ideas.
  • We are allowing students to pursue additional personal projects as appropriate.
  • Refreshments will also be available and all free of charge.

Why is this needed? 

  • Creativity brings many benefits to young people, including their wellbeing.
  • Digital poverty is an issue for many students looking to start out in creative media subjects.
  • For students looking to progress careers in the areas of digital creativity, there is very little support currently available to help them to develop these skills.

FAQs

  • Who is facilitating the sessions?

All adults supporting the sessions will have a current DBS and up-to-date safeguarding training.

  • Is there parking?

Yes! We have plenty of parking at the Kings Centre, both out the front of the building and round to the right-hand side.

  • Where is it held?

In ‘The Lounge’ at the Kings Centre. This is the first room on the left as you enter the building.

  • Is there a cost?

No – it’s FREE! Drop-in and use our facilities equipped with macs, adobe creative software, headphones, Wi-Fi access and printer use.

  • Will you be collecting personal information?

We will take the students’ details and next of kin information on their first visit so we can send any communication to them if needed. We will also take a weekly register for safeguarding and fire-safety reasons.

  • Is the building accessible?

We have disabled parking and step-free access. If you have any specific accessibility requirements, please contact us and we will see how we can best support you.
